DJ and producer Cecil Carthen is no stranger to music. Raised on sounds ranging from his father’s jazz and gospel records to the classical teachings of his piano instructor, he has always had a profound respect for the importance of music in life. Throughout his teenage years he was often found in music halls with his school band or on stage at the local hip-hop show sharing the gift of music.

Cecil eventually moved to the San Francisco Bay for college and was exposed to underground house music and club culture. He immediately fell in love and started looking for ways to bridge the gap between, his new found love for house and his heritage of jazz, soul, and hip-hop. His search has manifested in a refreshing and colorful dancefloor experience. For the past decade Cecil has committed himself to opening hearts and minds on the dance floor and has co-founded legendary parties such as Bembe and thePeople.

Constantly looking for new ways to reach people sonically, Cecil has recently turned his gaze towards production. In 2009 Cecil got his feet wet with remix work on hit tracks such as afro-house artist Mzee’s ‘The Flute Song’ and Carlos Mena’s ‘Drawn to Her’. He also co-wrote and produced the dance floor heater ‘Let it Fall’ with house legend David Harness and soulstress Lady Alma. 2010 also promises to be a big year for him as he gears up to release his first EP "Away From Me".

Cecil’s love for people and music can be heard in the music he plays and creates. Keep an eye out for him, as he will definitely be a fundamental sound in the future of dance music.
